Why Do I Have To Choose Between A Sleep "schedule" I Can't Follow?

A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭
Huntsville, AL

I hate getting up at 5 from pain or coughing or something, but I hate it less than trying to get back up at 8/9 AM to "start" the day and keep from taking a nap. Don't we need naps? We can't sleep well because we are in pain. Why can't we get a job that has irregular hours instead of trying for fewer hours? I tried looking for that WFH, but I don't have the required skills to work at my own darn pace, just when I'm semi-awake.

A MyChronicPainTeam Member

Here's an addendum. I just read a sleep helper. Now, I've read that we should get up after 20-30 minutes and do something relaxing, but I've also read that if we should move the clock or get rid of it… read more

Why Do Benzos Seem To Be Effective At Pain Reduction?

A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭
Phoenix, AZ

For example if I take an occasional Lorazepam for anxiety my anxiety is eliminated but so is my underlying (pelvic) pain for six hours. Anyone know how/why that works? Same for alcohol: two beers at 5pm and I feel much much better.

A MyChronicPainTeam Member

Are you a subscriber to Stanford Pain's bs? Pain is NOT in your head, hyperalgesia is NOT a real thing, and "catastrophizing" is a dirty word to real chronic pain patients.

Outpatient Total Knee?

A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭
Meriden, the armpit of Connecticut

One of my wife's friends just underwent a total knee replacement, and it was an “in by ten, out by six” outpatient procedure. I spent three days in the hospital about seven years ago after mine; my wife was in for a week (but she has comorbidities and they have to watch for infection). But 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵? I can not imagine it. Does anyone have experience? I’m probably looking at another replacement this year.

A MyChronicPainTeam Member

Thank you! I had my right knee replaced ~6 years ago, spent two nights in the hospital followed by two weeks of intensive PT/OT at a very good facility. That knee malfunctions and has become laterally… read more

PAIN AND GROWN CHILDREN

A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭
Houston, TX

What are your feelings or what do you do when your grown children have not really accepted your Chronic Pain from an auto accident for over 20 years. No reaching out to help unless a few times when we gave asked (begged?). We see them about 3 - 4 times a year, if we plan it. They are approx 40 years old. Good people, but are not compassionate about their parents. We don't complain, we don't discuss things a lot, because it upsets them. So we talk about them, things that are fun and try to… read more
