Med Question

A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello all. Med question for the masses.
I am on lithium (bipolar) and Dilaudid (chronic pain). The pain med adjusts as needed between morphine, Dilaudid, and oxycodone due to tolerance.
Has anyone in a similar situation experienced any side effects or other effects?
Thanks.

In a nutshell, started with 2 laminectomies then C2-T5 and L1-S fusions. Contracted 2 infections so hardware was removed, a PIC inserted for 3 months, then hardware replaced. Inserted a neurostimulator which was defective, then replaced. Fractured the lumbar fusion, so all removed/replaced. It's been quite the adventure.
Layla is my support beast. My wife has been a hero throughout. She didn't sign up for this level of turmoil.
Fentanyl patches caused me anxiety, insomnia. We made a decision not to use it again. Just wasn't worth it.
My surgeons and pain managers work together so that has made things much smoother.
The chronic pain plays hell with the depression. And vice versa.
What else? 😊

Your very welcome. oh ok. makes total sense...your body builds up a tolerance and what worked no longer works. I only had morphine after my lobectomy. I wouldn't trust Fentanyl either. My friend wanted me to take it. I never did. He fell off a Schwan's truck and landed on his head. Ouch. I truly admire your courage, tenacity in coping with so many medical surgeries. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of spinal surgeries did you go through? Fusion? I hope you have a good support system in place. Pets are great therapy. I wish I could be more help. I don't want to be on narcotics anymore. my decision. not easy.

its ok. It's not boring. Thank you for your service. I kind of figured it was military related. My daughter and son-in-law are Veterans. My family history goes back many generations of Military. *I just listened to song "Layla" it's great* 🙂 (Just an fyi* it may take a little time to find someone else on here that knows more about the triple combo of medication your taking) to get a human reply. not government.

Won't go into boring details, but all military related. And yes, PICC due to infections.
