How Do You Cope With Endless And Excruciating Pain Of Your Illness?

A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

Day after day I try to wear a false smile, some days I just can’t and my husband tells me I don’t have to wear that false smile. I don’t like taking opiate pain meds but I really hate the pain more. My pain for the most part is unmanageable because nothing works. Meds take the edge off but they don’t last long enough
I suffer from endless anxiety and depression but the depression isn’t as bad as the anxiety. I do believe this is because of my intense pain. I’m currently changing vortioxetine,… read more

I too am on an opioid which takes the edge off the pain, but doesn't help the really bad pain that comes with doing jobs, lifting or even going for a walk. I live on my own and I'm now in my 70s, so have to do almost everything myself. When the opioid was increased I was like a zombie, so had to go back to the lower dose. Spinal injections 💉 haven't worked, and surgery is out of the question because I have osteoporosis.
I just get by as best as I can each day, but I do get very low at times. I had antidepressants some years ago, but couldn't cope with the side effects then, so it would be useless me trying them now with all the other medication I'm on.

Hi, I'm in full agreement with your pain, I myself have lived with chronic back pain for 33 years and counting, Like you I do not like taking opiate pain killers they do take the edge of it but I do not like been spaced out and feeling tired and very miserable. I like too take my mind off my pain by doing photography it certainly a hobby which I enjoy , nobody knows what it's like living with constant pain and depression I have had endless lectures off specialists and GP's for the last twelve months I have been prescribed an old drug called amitryptiline which knocks me out for a good sleep. I hope you can find a hobby or something too give you a least a couple hours in the day .Regards Martin.😀
