How Do We Get The Landlord To Accept Our Limitations?

A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

Omg! So glad to finally be able to post again. So I need some advice from my chronic pain and disability friend base here.❤️ So our landlord is generally a good guy and definitely better than the majority and he claims he has tried to accommodate our disabilities and situation and he has to an extent, but here is the issue and I will post something in the my updates too, but I wanted to say something here in case anyone else has any options I can explore. Let me just start by saying I can't take… read more

Call a disabilities attorney NOW. Get one that will make a claim against the hospital.Call your state or county disabilities group. I am allergic to mold and canned goods do not cause mold. Dampness does.
I have to go tothe doc. Will write more.
Blessings and guidance❤️ from above

When rental is month to month, landlords have you on the hook, monthly. He does not have to renew your lease wh it expires, in June. With that being said, he is not allowed to harass you or make unreasonable demands. I f he tells you a date by which you need to move out, then you need to pack and move by that date. That will give him time to repair items and be ready to sell.

You must be allowed to quietly enjoy the rental with out being hassled. Now, him selling changes things but it does not allow him to demand you manually do anything. Get a lawyer. Document each invasion.

@A MyChronicPainTeam Member I hate month to month leases because they don't give you the luxury of time to find a different place. In VA and I think here in NC if it's month to month they have to give you 30 days notice to vacate but it might be different where you live. I would call the department in your county or city of residence and ask what exactly are your rights as a tenant. The ask what your rights are under the Federal People With Disabilities Act. I think it might be helpful to you. It means you will spend a lot of wait time on the phone. You may be able to research that on line. I would keep a notebook of phone calls and visits by the jerk to show how frequently he calls and the demands he makes of you. You need documentation should he decide to evict you. He sounds like he's beyond his rights when he tells you how many canned goods you have in your house. I believe that he may have some leverage if your furniture makes the apartment a fire risk. I just really don't know what your rights are and find researching to be the best way know exactly what to do and say about his constant harassment.

I do emphasize your plight with the hubby/boyfriend situation. I have been Ken's home Healthcare person since the onset of his brain disorders and it isn't easy. So you have your issues, now your other half has big issues, and you're constantly under threat from your landlord which makes your lives even more difficult. Go research and maybe even start looking for a different place to live. Hugs to you. Love and light. Barb
