Does Anyone Else Need Help With Personal Hygiene?
My husband helps me take a bath while I am sitting on a tub chair. I can clean most places myself but there are just some due to stiffness and pain, that are not possible for me to do. He also helps me blow dry my hair, shave my legs...among other things...though I am grateful to him, I am also feel like I've hit rock bottom because I am such an independent person. I used to take care of everyone else. Thanks for any shared experiences or feelings.
Thank you guys for the suggestions! @A MyChronicPainTeam Member how kind of your wife to help with feet, my husband does too along with socks @A MyChronicPainTeam Member, I will look on Amazon to see what I can find! Such good suggestions @A MyChronicPainTeam Member and @A MyChronicPainTeam Member I've never tried dry shampoo, thanks for the suggestion. @A MyChronicPainTeam Member That is a good idea to shower at the gym. Our swim complex has walk in showers too. Thank you all for sharing your experiences, I don't feel so alone anymore.
Some days hiding my rats nest of hair in a messy bun is all I got.
Are there times when I finally felt well enough to shave That I wasn’t tempted to use a weedwhacker from the garden shed to just get it done , yup. I have shaved them in bed 😂
Has dry shampoo been my bestie on days I can’t wash my hair, yup
Have I learned that putting deodorant on at night before bed is the proper way, and now purchased ones with extended hours of wear.why at 46 am I just learning this?
Sponge baths even when your sitting on toilet after your morning piddle or late night, whatever works.
Febreeze to freshen home but also those 3 day jammies 😂😁
Body sprays that smell like ya just got outta shower. Lotions for so many reasons.
Hand sanitizer.
Being unwell is never pretty and rarely easy.
As long as we do the best we can when we can and continue to push forward to achieve better it’s all we can humanly do.
Gentle Hugs 🤗
@A MyChronicPainTeam Member He Juli, I think that the conundrum here is an oxymoron. We need the medical community and the different Boards of Pharmacy to see us as disabled or sick but feel like we have lost so much that we need the feeling that we can at least wash and dress ourselves. Those are basic adult functions and we already feel less then...because of our diseases or injuries. Most of us played multiple roles and to find ourselves unable to even wash on our own is a real blow to selfesteem. I hope others will jump in and give their two cents worth. Barb
I have nerve damage in both legs, bad knees and inoperable lower spinal blockages. I go along with my son to his gym because the showers are easy to get in and out of. I can do a few exercises sitting down then I get a good shower. My shower at home is a tub with a shower curtain. I simply can't get my legs high enough to get in. Before I was using a hose in my basement hooked up to the water heater. I have a steel chair over the floor drain. Not great but it was the only thing I could think of and I didn't want to be dirty. Now I am glad to go along to the gym. A real hot shower is great. Most people don't ever think of the difficulties we gave to live with. God bless.
Miss Marta...yes,yes,yes. Similar to what your saying, stiffness, pain, spasms and whatever else wants to creep up. Like Carrie said I live by messy buns and dry shampoo. My self personally I have recruited everyone (my daughters) to reach and clean places I can not. It’s hard to relinquish self sufficancy for real but remember, whomever is helping you, loves you. It’s more bothersome to us than to them. Try to make your personal hygiene routine as simple as possible and you’d be surprised what you can do when you’ve accommodated to work for you.
