An EMG is nothing to fear. Yes they use needles, but you do not feel them, like acupuncture. And I feel you can do that on your own and ask your parents to wait in the waiting room. I have raised 6 kids, all of them different, and if they told me they were old enough to do the procedure without them by my side, I would respect that. I’d be outside the door, if you changed your mind, but I would allow you, at 16 to have thes procedure on your own. Are they doing the muscle biopsy at the same time or separately? That, I believe is a sterile procedure, and they may ask your parents to wait in the waiting room anyway. Don’t stress over it, call them and ask your questions. You are the patient and are entitled toanswers to your questions. Best of luck, let us know how it goes. I don’t recommend you bring a friend under 21... and HIPA laws may state that another minor can not be in the room.

I have had both several times. I have always been a private person so, I have almost had all my procedures done alone. I was also 43 when I got sick not 16 as you are!

As a mom, there is no doctor who is going to keep me away from my child during the most frightening crisis in their young life.

Any doctor that would not allow at least one if not both parents present is not a doctor I would allow on my child's team.

its not bad at all, unless you let your imagination make it worse Its such a great info test. sometimes we would sedate people who were too upset about the test
