Has Anyone Had Gastric Bypass Surgery?
I'm looking into having gastric bypass surgery to help with weight loss in hopes of it helping the chronic pain I deal with daily. My biggest concern is that I might make another healthcare issue. A few of the meds I take cause weight gain so just dieting doesn't make the scale move much. I'm hoping with the sleeve and taking my stomach down to 1/3 of its size will help me get past the medication issue. So if anyone has had this done please share what kind of outcome you have had. Any help will… read more
I had gastric bypass surgery in 1991 prior to my chronic pain issues. I initially went from 400lbs to 190lbs. After my back surgery I did regain about 70lbs due to immobility but I was able to lose it fairly quickly and I'm now about 165, which did help decrease my knee pain.
I didn't have the sleeve done, I had the
Roux-en-Y which was very effective for me. I still eat small portions and I'm not able to tolerate a lot of sugars or fat. From my experience and that of friends everyone has different results. It's not a weight loss miracle but a tool. If you follow the guidelines and doctors instructions you'll experience better results than if you eat the wrong foods, eat too often through the day or stretch your pouch by over eating. I was never hungry after the surgery and prior to it I would always say that I didn't have a full button, although I was never a big eater.
I have had it done in 2000 if you have any questions about it I can tell you anything, I was 250 lb now I'm 125 lb.I can help you out with food intake and exercise etc. I have also had many other surgeries as well. I have Fibomylgia and IBS dealing with eating healthy. Hope to hear from you :)
I'm going through the dietician once a month right now maybe getting it done in 6months health reasons but still scared and on the fence. My nice had her levels. Vitamins and fluid. Out of whack after her surgery they thought she had a stock only 32yrs old on disability. Had to learn to walk all over. So make sure you find someone highly skilled and are comfortable. My brother in law also had and he is doing wonderful. Goes to support classes and is really looking good. So you never know. Just make sure all your questions get answered and I'm leaving the tough one in Gods hands hugs and keep me posted what you decide I was thinking the sleeve also
I have a friend and cousin who had the surgery. From what I have seen, I wouldn't do it! I do know a lot of people have success too. My one friend is in Hospice right now because of all of the complications she had from Gastric Bypass many years ago. My cousin is still as big as she was before the surgery and she is young. She had the surgery years ago. Best of luck to you. My suggestion is research research research...
PS no drinking alcohol during or after weight loss surgery since absorbsion issues make us respond like having diabetus when eating sugar and can cause fatal responses to our systems, and fatty/fried foods make a very uncomfortable response called dumping syndrome where vomiting, sweating, cramping and uncontrolled loose stools happen. And well do the math, if anything entering our body is amplified figure out what toxic breathing would do while smoking.
