Hi you all
Right what do you think. Told in work today that the main boss wants me to sign a note to my doc telling him she wants to know all my details. I know if I don't sign it will be made very uncomfortable for me. I have not told work about all the pain I am in from my arthritis or my Fibromyalgia. They don't know I have them. Now I am worried they will get rid of me.

This is because I had a fall in work my own doing walking downstairs backwards hoovering. Before that i missed a couple of… read more

Your boss can ask you to sign for her to get your records. She has no right to ask for you to do this. Once she gets those records she can find out much more about you than she needs to know. She is not a close relative. Do not give her ammo so that she can fire you. I would talk to your Doctor to see if he might write her a very general note or what legally he thinks you might do. Maybe he will want you to take a few weeks off just to settle down from this stress. Good luck!

Hello Work, I just read your question.
So, here's the deal -- this is an unfortunate situation. Having said that, you have rights as an employee and just about every company has a human resources representative to assist you (over the phone and/or in person depending on their location) in matters such as these.
If you think about it, it's rather likely that your co-workers are also in the position to have to take something for their discomfort or some other type of medication, whether it's over the counter or prescription. It's not right to be singled out under the circumstances. Some places even drug test their employees - once the results are in, if and when they have any questions, it's easy to prove that you have a prescription.

The first thing I would do is talk to your doctor and inform him or her about the situation. See what they have to say about it. Assuming you like and respect your physician, he or she should be able to comprehensively approach this situation and give you advice on how to handle it.

Involving anyone in the workplace should be fully dependent on what your doctor has to say about it. If your doctor tells you that you are not required to disclose, I would follow that directive. If you believe that you may run into an issue with a supervisor or manager, inform the doctor of your concerns with that as well.

Basically, it's best to limit direct involvement with anybody that is going to be questioning your ability to work safely under these circumstances.
