Also, let your elected officials know about your challenges with pharmacies. Shortages, and the needs of chronic patients, are a national topic. Just yesterday there was a Whitehouse Round Table to discuss the topic. We all need to raise our voices about being able to follow the regimen prescribed by our licensed physicians!

My pharmacist would check other nearby pharmacies to see if the meds are in stock and transfer the prescription for me so I could get what I need.

Doctors do not get paid for making calls to other pharmacies, so they hate doing it. Pharmacies do not fill chronic customers different from acute patients, so you're competing for their inventory. Most pharmacies are also capped and cannot order more controlled substances. I always suggest finding a Pain Management Pharmacy program to avoid that situation.
