Why Are Drugs Mostly Always The Answer?

A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭
Palm Coast, FL

I have lower back pain for years. Now I have Sciatica along with everything else. I have gone to Neurologists, Ortho guys, my Primary, a Chiro and a few others, and mostly the only thing offered to me is Drugs. I can have "anything I want" from Asprin to Percoset. I dont want any of it. I want to find a treatment or cure that I can actually live with. PT doesnt work for me bevause it only brings on more pain. I'm 71, I'd like to enjoy the years I have left.

There isn't always a "cure" just better ways to manage the pain. Much of it is mind, body and spirit. Other treatments you might consider would be Cold Laser, Dry Needling and Vagus Nerve Stimulation. Sending you all the very best!!

Agreed. Drugs are not the answer. Its like putting and bandaid on a bullet hole. As we age, the effects of the drugs intensify, and can cause more harm that good. Cortisone shots shots are equally as bad, side effects can be increased heartrate, high blood sugar, trouble breathing, jitters that all can last from a few hours to a few days. But those are the top line of defense from our doctors. I'll stick with stretching, tiger balm, walking, and on occasion CBD ointment.

Oh God, I so agree, I absolutely Hate taking pills! Always worried, do I have my dose, when I’ll be away from home 🤔
I wish I could try Medication Weed, if only we could live without all the chemicals/pills!

Being in the medical field, like others here, some of us have noticed that medicine is the first line of defense. And that may save a life. It has to be individualized. But many times, getting to the root of the problem is possible, but it isn't overnight. Some take meds until they discover they can lower or not take them. I am not a doctor, so please keep this in mind. To keep muscle scaring (which is painful) massage and acupuncture is great. But meds might still be needed. I've found that Acupuncture medications work well, but they have to know if they interfer with other meds.

I encourage any to use The Lancet, and PubMed as research to see if something might be helpful for your health issues. I might put in "Alternative treatments and Chronic Pain". That is very broad, but it might catch your eye on something.
