Can Either Sciatica Or Osteoarthritis In One's Knees Cause Leg Swelling?

A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭
Surrey, BC

Hi there. I have both osteoarthritis in both my knees as well as sciatica in my lower back, and I've been noticing lately that whenever I have pain flareups from both conditions, I have swelling in my legs, especially in my calves. Could either of these conditions be causing that?

Definitely osteoarthritis causes leg swelling. It's called inflammation. I try cold pack on my areas of pain to reduce inflammation and alternate with a heat pad. Sometimes it helps, sometimes not.
