Can this also be used to treat idiopathic peripheral neuropathy and nerve damage from shingles?

Yes elavil can be used as is nortryptaline which I used for many years for my neuropathy. Worked much better than lyrica or neurontin for me and I felt was safer.

I take Elavil and it works for my pain and i can take my time and relax for sleep i am still in pain but i can move on

I'm taking Elavil... and don't feel the difference with my neuropathy in my left ankle and feet

Elavil. Are you asking about Carbamazepine? If so, I'm not sure about all it can be used for.
