Chronic Low Back Pain

A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭
Crystal Beach, FL

Has anyone had spinal cord stimulator surgery? If so, what was the outcome? Would you recommend it? Any stories would help me.
Thanks

I have had a spinal cord stimulator for my low back pain with radiculopathy down both legs including my feet for 17 years. I spent the 15 months with a dieing /dead battery, which reinforced how much I love it!
It is like an indwelling tens unit, that you can shower and swim with. If you have had a tens unit with good response, just need more coverage, and coverage while bathing and or swimming, then you will do well with the spinal cord stimulator. Mine is on 18 plus hours a day. I was in bed 3 years prior to the implant, and was out of the wheelchair almost immediately after the implant! It does help when I have to shop, and then have to wait in line to stand in line to check out. It helps tremendously when is comes to walking my dog, and to be able to bathe on my own. If you have specific questions contact me @ [[email: (Email address can only be seen by the question and answer creators), and we can address your particular questions.
What does it feel like when it is on? I equate it to standing on a train and feeling the constant motion of the floorboards moving under my feet..
With the new technology, the battery recharges, and the battery and leads can be MRI friendly, That way your care can continue in the diagnostic field. My leads are old and are not MRI friendly, so I still have to have CAT scans, and subpar diagnostics.
So, get back to me if you have specific questions. Best of luck making this decision!

I had the Abbott/St Jude Proclaim implanted. I'm 8 months post op and just now starting to get some relief. It takes some reprogramming to get there but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I have asked the administrators of this forum to do an article about spinal cord stimulators. If you are being offered a Medtronic device, I can speak from experience about them and am willing to share my positive outlook of them.
