What Do We Do When Fda Is Stopping Everything That Helps

I'm on gabapentin and now my pharmacy acts like it's a narcotic. Herbs, teas, and supplements that help even a little are now being banned or marked as illegal

Gabapentin was originally developed for controlling seizures of various types. It shouldn't be treated ass if it is anathema! Lyrica, in fact, is a pre-cursor to gabapentin (pregabalin). I'll check the FDA website to see if there are any new warnings that may be causing it to being pulled back. Insurance Companies can also get funky about what they carry in their formulary and what, for some reason, they decide to drop it. As I said, I'll look up the FDA to see if there's something new and worrisome about that particular drug!

If you have any questions about drugs no longer being covered, first find out if it is the FDA that is really withdrawing approvals. I have found that there have been many cases where the CDC "Guidelines" are being treated as "Regulations," which they are most emphatically not! If someone tells you that a drug is no longer being covered (I.e., Valium, or diazepam) go to www.fda.gov, and to their Drug page. From there, you can search on a drug and look at any/all changes in its approval status, labeling, etc. This includes the pages from the Federal Register, who is like the daily newspaper of the federal government. It can get tedious getting through all of the language, If you're not sure what to do, please do not hesitate to call me at (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators) - I used to work for the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, and know exactly how to read and interpret new regulations/laws, guidance documents, approval and disapproval letters, etc. - anything that has to do with nay type of regulation for that particular drug or regulations that may affects your ability to actually get a specific drug prescribed to you. If it's because of insurance companies or MDs who feeling very vulnerable to such groups as the CDC, the DEA, etc., or classes of a specific drug, give me a holler and I will try to research the information as quickly as possible and get it back to you. If I'm not available top do this due to being very sick myself and/or in the hospital at that time, I'll see if my sister can post an update to my page specifying if I'm in the hospital and that I'm in the hospital!

I will really try to find the best answer to your question as I possibly can. If I hit a wall, I'll also do my best to let you know that too, and what. if any conjectures on my part as to why this is happening.

I really hope this helps a lot of you, and that you will take me up on my offer to do searches for you - it used to be a part of my job description as a Regulatory Affairs Specialist or Manager.
