Hi @A MyChronicPainTeam Member I have had a rotator cuff surgery on one shoulder which turned out to be a much bigger operation than expected. I had bone spurs that penetrated all my ligaments which had to be shaved, reduced and /or repaired. Immediately after surgery I started to shake uncontrollably and go into spasms. I couldn't get up or move freely. This was a reaction to a Lidocaine drip that I had been put on during surgery to manage my pain post surgery. I suffer from chronic pain. As soon as my pain consultant was made aware of my reaction I was taken off the drip and returned to normal. I did feel that straight away the pre-op pains in my my shoulder had improved. I saw my surgeon on alternate days over the following 3 weeks as I developed an infection in the wound. I had been discharged 2-3 days post op. The one piece of good advice that I followed was to work really hard on the physiotherapy. This really paid off and I made a great recovery really quickly after three weeks I was driving and doing most things that I had struggled with pre-op. I was adviced by the surgeon to continue with the exercises as my other shoulder would likely need the same operation within a year. I have to use 2 walking sticks which caused the cuff tear. The arthritis which caused the ligament tears nothing could be done about this repeating itself with the other shoulder of return to the first shoulder. I did continue with the exercises a couple of times a week or more if I remembered and I didn't need the 2nd operation and that was approx 6-7 years ago. I'm not saying it won't ever return but at least it's been fine for all that time. So I would like to pass that advice to yourself even if you require the 2 operations it will assist your recovery and further avoid any further problems for a while at least. Good luck with your operations x
