Members who successfully won disability claims with fibromyalgia strongly emphasized that approval typically requires documented secondary conditions like depression, chronic pain, or arthritis, with most needing multiple attempts and a specialized disability attorney to succeed. Several members shared practical courtroom advice, including dressing casually without makeup, openly showing pain and limitations during hearings, and ensuring doctors meticulously document all symptoms and functional impairments at every visit. A recurring theme was the importance of being honest about how conditions affect daily life, surrounding yourself with multiple specialists who can support your claim, and considering companies like Allsup or waiting until after an initial denial before hiring a lawyer to maximize back pay.

You definitely want the psych diagnosis. The more things they can diagnose, the better. I had severe arthritis with fibro ave that wasn't enough to get me on it. I also was diagnosed with severe depression, carpal tunnel syndrome, loss of short term memory, and i don't remember what all. It took the combination of all that I had to get me onto disability.

However, I was told that it was because I had a college degree that I had to prove even more disability than my brothers did without their degrees. We have the same condition.

Definitely get a lawyer to help. It will cut down the time it takes immensely. Good luck.

I had major depression as well as fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome. I went with a well-known disability law firm (Binder & Binder) who work nation wide. They had me be evaluated by a physiatrist and by a psychiatris. Within 11 months I had my disability. Just a thought!

Thank you all so much. The unbelievable thing is that I have numerous conditions. I also have chronic pain as well as lower back pain, carpal tunnel, anemic, overactive bladder, I use CPAP machine, hypothyroidism, and left foot pain from surgery. I also have arthritis in my left foot and arthritis in my knees. I get trigger shots in my back from fibromyalgia and shots in my knees once a month.
