Skin Care

A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

Just curious as one of the many symptoms of fibromyalgia is really dry skin
Mine is so dry and painful and cracks and bleeds
Was wondering what others use for moisturiser to replenish the moisture
I have tried Vaseline intensive care and currently using Nivea but nothing seems to be helping
😩😩😩😫

I have fibro plus a thyroid disorder. My skin is flaking off. I use A+D Ointment on the bottom of my feet, then put on a pair of old socks. The skin on the bottom of my feet look like a dry mud puddle, cracked and dry. These treatments seem to last for months. I also use this on dry patchy elbows along with pumice cream. A+D Ointment has been a good friend. I also like Apple cider vinegar mixed with Listerine for rash on my feet. Half and half mixture. Cheap cheap treatments that work....

You might also try one of the body oils on the market. I know Nivea has one. After showering you apply while still wet, pores are open. Dry saunas used to be great to. Impossible to even find now.

I swear by good old zinc and castor oil cream. Cheap and easy to use. Best to put it on right after your bath or shower and before you dry off. The skin seems to soak it up better when it's warm and wet from a shower or bath. There are also several creams that can be ised instead of soaps though I can't name any off the top of my head. Also be careful about soaps, shampoos and laundry products. I'm not allergic to any one in particular except Radox and anything with Dettol but find I need to change brand every week or so or I get an itchy red rash. Stick to as plain a product as yoi can find - select 2 or 3 and rotate. Also try to choose scentless with added moisturiser. It's what I had to do years ago to stop dry skin many years before fibro appeared. Good luck!
