Vitamines

A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭
Brampton, ON

On the first visit to my Pain Doctor, she advised me to start taking 1,000iu Omega-3 and 1,000iu Vitamin D. The 1,000iu Omega-3 she wanted me to take is attained by taking TWO 1,000 Omega-3 pills. There is a wonder drug being advertised that has 5,000iu Vitamin D along with their Omega-3 mix. The extra Vitamin D is supposed to raise your enjoyment/appreciation of life. After discussing with my doctor, I increased from 1,000iu to 2,000iu, then 3,000iu two weeks after that. I think it is a part of… read more

Yes, at 3,000iu my doctor said stop, do not go up to 4,000. Also did not advise to go all at once from 1,000 to 3,000 but take two weeks at 2,000 first.
Never thought a vitamin would be a complete treatment but provide your body with what it needs.

Hmmm.........I started taking Omega-3 by using inexpensive Fish Oil. At one point I was taking 3600/day (which the cardiologist said was just fine), but I decreased it to 2400/day since I eat fish regularly. I was prescribed the Fish oil to keep my cholesterol down, not for chronic pain. And then, I started taking Vitamin D for depression at 1000 iu/day. My doctor kept measuring my Vitamin D levels in my blood (which started out abnormally low) and I increased until by blood levels were in the normal range, which was 3000/day. Again, not for chronic pain. Omega-3 in Fish Oil and Vitamin D did nothing to relieve my chronic pain. But this much I know: An MD who runs an in-house Chronic Pain Treatment Center wrote a book on withdrawing from pain meds and instead using other ways to treat chronic. He recommends taking Omega-3 and Vitamin D. And he also recommends magnesium. And he recommends a lot of other things. I tried Everthing I could for my chronic pain and nothing worked for 45 years, until I was totally disabled. I was a shut-in for many years. But I have gone from constant, terrible, total body pain to just stiffness and little pain. My story is on my page. Oh, the name of the book is: The Chronic Pain Book.
