Does Anyone Recommend Shots In The Back For Pain Not Helped By Physical Therapy?

A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭

My pain management doctor, who I've only seen once for an initial consultation has told me I have DDD (Degenertive Disk Disease) and arthritis in the back and had me go back to physical therapy, which I finished months ago and had said that if the physical therapy didn't work, she recommends shots in the back. I wondered if anyone can give any insight to this procedure, are there side effects? Also, I live alone so I'm not sure if the shots cause pain enough to make household chores difficult… read more

I never had luck with the injections and also ended up with a spinal migraine just to add to the pain!

Over the past 10 - 12 years, I've had 3 epidurals and they relieved my pain almost immediately. Doctors don't explain why but they don't like to prescribe them often. Friday before last, I couldn't get up out of bed due to level 10 pain in my lower back. I managed to roll myself onto the floor thinking I could then push myself up on my hands and knees: that didn't work. I lay on the floor for 4 hours and finally had to call 911. Emergency personnel took me to the ER where I was given 3 pain shots (in the butt). The first 2 shots did pretty much nothing but after the third one, I was able to get up. That has been my experience with pain shots and epidurals. Hope this helps.

I had the injections 4x now. Yes, there are side effects. A leak was left in my spine and I had very bad migraines for almost a month. After 7 trips to the emergency room a neurologist finally diagnosed the leak due to the injections. The injections I had after this bad one did not work for me, however, I have spoken to others that have had good results.

NO, not really I had some shots, but found out it degenerates bones. I had a back op instead.

Many swear shots help but no one is putting needles in my spine every few months. I feel there is to great chance of a mistake being made.
