About Amitriptylin

A MyChronicPainTeam Member asked a question 💭
Pasadena, TX

Been a few days since I've been on. Been that kind of week. Want to give an update just don't have it in me right now. I do have a question about a new medicine, though. Does anyone have any thoughts about Amitriptylin? Has it helped you? And, since I haven't slept in a few days, does it help you sleep? And lastly, do you feel groggy the next day. Mine are 10 mg.

Thanks everyone. Blessings.

Members shared mixed experiences with amitriptyline 10mg for sleep and pain, with many confirming it helped them fall asleep but several warned of next-day grogginess, especially if not timed correctly (taking it around 8pm for an 11pm bedtime was suggested to minimize morning fog). Several members described beneficial effects including improved sleep quality, reduced depression, and modest pain relief, though some reported unwanted side effects like weight gain, irritability, or persistent drowsiness that never subsided. A recurring theme was the importance of allowing several weeks for the medication to reach full effectiveness, being mindful of individual tolerance and side effects, and weighing whether the sleep benefits outweigh potential grogginess or mood changes.

The trick is to take it at 8pm if you ar going to bed at 11pm... then you will sleep and should not be groggy by 6am. It take 10-12 hours to get out of your system. And you do build a tolerance to it.

when l took it -Amitriptyline, at 8pm after a big day of Spring cleaning my bed and did a lot of extra things like washing sheets and airing bedding, l took 25mg instead of the 10mg as l was out of the 10mg. l fell asleep in my chair until 11.30pm, I took myself to bed and slept till 6.30am. Wonderful. Some mornings l feel like I am a bit Hungover but it soon passes.
I believe that it is quite Restorative and l think that it takes several weeks for you get it into your system. It has worked wonders for me

@A MyChronicPainTeam Member like taking Amitriptyline 10mg tablet before bed and 25mg zonked me out too much and I slept well last night and my doctor told me that it isn't habit forming like Valium and Opiates. I give it a 10 out of 10. My depression is better than it was before starting taking Amitriptyline.

@A MyChronicPainTeam Member yes it does make a big difference to my state of mind to have a good nights sleep and I can occasionally forget to take it and I still have a great nights sleep. Hugsxxx

@judithgodde thank you for backing up my response with a positive answer. I forgot to say that it takes about 3 weeks to get level.
